Funding Opportunities –
- Funding (due 10/1/2025) – The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is pleased to announce the release of an Application for Reimbursement through the Prescription Accessibility Grant Program on December 11, 2024. The Prescription Accessibility Grant Program was created to award hardship grants to pharmacies that face financial barriers to complying with House Bill 24-1115. CDPHE will award approximately $65,000 to pharmacies, with a maximum award of $1,500 per individual grant recipient. Grant funds must be used exclusively to purchase equipment that creates accessible prescription labels. Eligibility for this funding is as follows:

- An ‘independent pharmacy’ is defined as a prescription drug outlet privately owned by at least one licensed pharmacist with no ownership interest by or affiliation with a chain or publicly owned pharmacy.
- Ineligible entities
- Publicly traded pharmacies (Walgreens, CVS, etc) are not eligible for this funding opportunity.
- Pharmacies that meet eligibility criteria and have purchased labeling equipment that complies with the new accessibility requirements are encouraged to apply for grant reimbursement. The application deadline is October 1, 2025. Review the application requirements and apply for grant reimbursement.

News & Resources:
- The Colorado Office of Suicide Prevention, housed within CDPHE, leads the statewide Gun Shop Project. In order to serve the entire state, the Office of Suicide Prevention funds ten grantees to visit gun shops, retailers, and firearm-related community events to share suicide prevention resources and information about temporary safe storage options in the case that someone is experiencing suicidal despair. In addition to the ten community grantees leading this work locally, OSP staff and the West Slope VA outreach additional counties, so that the project reaches statewide. Since 2020, the Gun Shop Project has conducted more than 2,500 visits to gun shops and community events statewide.

- Colorado Safety Net Collaborative – The Colorado Safety Net Collaborative has received its IRS nonprofit designation. The Collaborative represents the 40 safety net clinics in Colorado that are not Federally Qualified Health Centers nor Rural Health Centers. The clinics serve Health First Colorado members and the uninsured. As a result, they are transitioning to independent status and will no longer be using a fiscal intermediary. In addition, our new email address is live: cosafetynet@gmail.com. These clinics serve people across Colorado in areas CDPHE has identified as high-risk health communities. These clinics provide services at little or no cost to patients, whether they are using Health First Colorado, or they are uninsured or underinsured, which is a growing population that they serve.
- Save our Safety Net! In direct response to the Medicaid Unwind, a group of providers are getting together to support continued Medicaid benefits and clinic supports through these efforts. A few of you have reached out about this and/or brought up the concerns that are happening with safety net clinic closures, hope this resource helps!
- BIPOC Maternal Health in Colorado: Colorado Hospital Association’s Center for Clinical Leadership and Excellence recently released a research brief titled “Learnings About BIPOC Maternal Health in Colorado.” CHA partnered with OMNI, a non-profit research organization, to study the experiences of BIPOC people giving birth in Colorado during the prenatal, peripartum, and postpartum periods. In 2022, six focus groups were conducted with a total of 24 participants. There are several action-oriented steps that hospitals may take as a result of this research. These can be grouped into four categories:
- Improving communication with patients and their families
- Discussing and integrating holistic patient centered birth plans;
- Providing comprehensive maternal and neonatal services in the peripartum period;
- and promoting thorough education around cultural competency.
- The research brief can be found here.
- The brief is based on a larger in-depth report, which can be found here.
